Customer tag Create account Create Account ## The importance of _live_ bacteria The best way to ensure the full health benefit of a probiotic like _Akkermansia_ is with live bacteria strains. Live _Akkermansia_ can interact with dietary fiber and polyphenols to colonize the gut effectively. Live _Akkermansia_ can break down mucin and stimulate goblet cells to produce new mucin, helping to maintain gut barrier integrity. How keystone strains influence overall health **1 - CONVERTING FIBER INTO FUEL** Pendulum’s five probiotic strains ferment dietary fiber to produce key postbiotics—like SCFA, proteins that boost GLP-1 hormone production, and anti-inflammatory cytokines. **2 - SUPPORT THE GUT BARRIER** _Akkermansia muciniphila_ supports gut barrier integrity and immune balance. Low levels can thin the mucosal layer, disrupt the microbiome, and allow harmful bacteria and toxins into circulation—triggering inflammation and immune responses. **3 - STIMULATE GLP-1 PRODUCTION** Pendulum’s five strains boost butyrate production—a vital postbiotic that drives key health benefits, including stimulating GLP-1 hormone release from intestinal L cells. ## Our strains deserve the spotlight - _Akkermansia muciniphila_ An essential bacteria strain that strengthens the all-important gut barrier and produces postbiotics for digestive and metabolic health. - _Clostridium butyricum_ A prominent butyrate-producing strain that enhances metabolism, promotes digestive health, and supports immune health. - _Anaerobutyricum hallii_ A butyrate-producing strain that plays an essential role in metabolic and digestive health. - _Clostridium beijerinckii_ A novel butyrate-producing strain that promotes a healthy and balanced gut microbiome. - _Bifidobacterium infantis_ A beneficial strain that primarily digests complex carbohydrates, thereby helping other bacteria produce short-chain fatty acids like butyrate. Its presence enhances digestion and supports healthy immune function and microbiome balance. ### Recommended by health experts - A science-based approach > "The microbiome is a tantalizing and exciting new frontier. Pendulum is taking rigorous and methodical science-based approach to developing these microbiome solutions." **John Buse, MD, PhD** UNC School of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology - The power of Akkermansia > “Having the ability to replace _Akkermansia_ and combining it with the right dietary factors has made an incredible difference in both my patients' metabolic and gut health.” **Jana Davis, MS, RDN, CDCES** Functional Registered Dietitian Nutritionist - The extra mile > “Strains like _Akkermansia muciniphila_ and the proprietary blend in Pendulum's products have shown incredible potential to address general health from the inside out.” **Anna Griffith, DNP-FNP-C** Nurse Practitioner ## Provider Resources Incorporate Pendulum into your practice [Practice protocols](https://pendulumlife.com/blogs/resources/tagged/resources) [Product factsheets](https://pendulumlife.com/blogs/resources/tagged/factsheets) [Patient handouts](https://pendulumlife.com/blogs/resources/tagged/handouts) [Publications](https://pendulumlife.com/blogs/resources/tagged/publications) ## Upcoming events & on-demand education Anytime access to webinars, podcast interviews, and other events with experts sharing their scientific insights and practical advice.
